Star Trek Trailer Analysis

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Lets see… How can I tie in trailer for the new Star Trek movie into this Lovecraft/Pulp/Cthulhu based blog?  Well, Geeks of Doom does mention a Cthulhu like beast that Kirk ends up fighting!  How bout that?

Actually, Star Trek (the original series) was for the most part a pulp story, or set of stories.  Captain Kirk and his adventures were pretty much 1940’s pulp thrown into space.  Can you really get any better than that?

Check out the awesome trailer, and read the analysis at Geeks of Doom!

William Shatner’s Quantum Cthulhu Christmas

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

What do William Shatner, Quantum Physics, Frosty the Snowman, and Cthulhu have in common?  Not much save for the film in which Mr. Shatner will be voicing Santa in a world where an attempt to take his picture has screwed with the time/space continuum and has brought about the potential end of the world.

What kind of entities? Think “Frosty meets Cthulhu,”

Is there really anything more that can be said to describe just how awesome this sounds?  I doubt it.  Maybe.  Read more at the MTV MovieBlog.

Apex needs your help

Monday, May 5th, 2008

ApexApex Book Company, the place where science fiction and horror collides, is in need of our help and all we need to do is send in a measly twenty dollars, and in return we’ll get 4 copies of Apex magazine.  All they need is 150 subscriptions.  Thats not a whole lot, but that doesn’t mean you can safely let someone else help out… If we all thought that, they’d have to close shop.  Theres also a $100 “For Life” subscription.

Details can be found at Apex’s site.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Friday, November 9th, 2007

The Day the Earth Stood StillOne of my favorite actors is Keanu Reeves.  Sure, he usually just plays himself in most of his movies, but I like the guy and the stuff he’s been in.  One of my favorite actresses is Jennifer Connely.  It probably comes from the crush I had on her when I saw The Labyrinth for the first time as a kid.  Why do I mention these two?  Jennifer Connely has joined the cast of The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, with Keanu playing the human looking alien, Klaatu.  Rejoice! :D

Decoder Ring Theater has another story out on mp3!  I love the work they do with “The Red Panda” and “Black Jack Justice”, so I’m excited about anything they create.  This latest one appears to be a space adventure, which should nicely round out the story sets they have.  Awesome!

Old Sci-Fi Covers

Monday, June 18th, 2007

1000 Year VoyageI’m a sucker for old pulp and Sci-Fi covers.  I don’t know why.  I just really like them.  Maybe it was from growing up reading my dad’s old Sci-Fi books from the 70’s, with their cover art, and that distinct old paperback book smell.
