Del Toro’s AToM set for 2010

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

At the Mountains of MadnessI quick perusal of Wikipedia shows us that Del Toro’s film adaptation of HPL’s “At the Mountains of Madness” is set for 2010.  Now thats just too long to wait!  Heres a little quote in the mean time.

Director Guillermo Del Toro has written a screenplay based on Lovecraft’s story, but in 2006 has had trouble getting Warner Brothers to finance the project. Wrote Del Toro, “The studio is very nervous about the cost and it not having a love story or a happy ending, but it’s impossible to do either in the Lovecraft universe.”[16] The film is now scheduled for a 2010 release.

Wikipedia: AToM <- read here… I love that Del Ray Books cover. Thats the one I have.

Del Toro at the Mountains of Madness

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Bits of News has up a nice article including a short explanation of H.P. Lovecraft as a man, some words from Guillermo Del Toro, a video of Neil Gaiman talking about HPL, and the trailer for the excellent HPLHS silent film “The Call of Cthulhu”.

Guillermo Del Toro“You need to create the character dynamics and the arc of the story, which is not in the book,” says del Toro. “Also, the horror in the book is only ambiguous and it’s kept open at the end. And you can still capture that atmosphere, but then you have to take it and go to a climax [in the movie]. Which in the book is really a climax by almost using negative space in the narrative; it’s what you don’t see that makes it. That essentially goes against the very essence of show business, because you don’t show anything. I think that what we’re doing is good and it’s as good as we can [do when] adapting Lovecraft. But it’s a project that’s been with us for several years now. It’s not an easy project to set up.”

Del Toro is like Tarzan… Awesome!

Friday, February 16th, 2007

iF Magazine has a very very brief bit on Del Toro talking about one of his many projects.  After “Hellboy 2″ and “At the Mountains of Madness”, we have a Tarzan movie that does take place in a nice clean Disney jungle!
