Del Toro’s Frankenstein

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Those of you who read my posts regularly, will probably have guessed that I love Guillermo Del Toro’s work.   He’s awesome.  Seriously.  So when I saw this bit of news about Del Toro making a Frankenstein movie, you know I immediately had to jump to linking it here, as it made me happy like a little school boy.

“I’m not doing ‘Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein.’ I’m doing an adventure story that involves the creature. I cannot say much, but it’s not the central creation story, I’m not worried about that. The fact is I’ve been dreaming of doing a ‘Frankenstein’ movie since I was a child. The one thing I can promise is, compared to Kenneth Branagh, I will not appear shirtless in the movie!”

My, what a Large Hadron Collider you have

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Baker and his team are searching for something called the Higgs Boson, sometimes referred to as the “God particle.” Scientists have theorized that the elusive Higgs Boson, if it exists, is what gives particles mass, but researchers have not found it. Baker has hopes that if it does exist, the Large Hadron Collider will help find it.

Personally, I think the Large Hadron Collider is not going to find any Higgs Bosons (aka God Particles).  Nope.  I think it will find something of a god, but this will be the blind idiot god type, Azezoth.  Either the returning data will make every scientist who looks at it go completely insane and start up a new cult, or the collider will tickle Azazoth just enough to wake him and we will all blink out of existance.

Either way, this is still fun geeky news! Read on at Courant.com.

Ben Templesmith’s “Art of Wormwood”

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Art and comics.  Two great things, that often go hand in hand, much to the argument of certain elitist types.  ComicBookResources has a press release about Ben Templesmith’s soon to be released “Art of Wormwood”, a collection of artwork from the “Wormwood” comic series.

Templesmith’s visual approach, which has been described as “daring, horrific, and sometimes just plain perverse” has gained a cult following for his work in graphic novels including 30 Days of Night, Fell, Wormwood, Gentleman Corpse and more recently Welcome to Hoxford. He has said he is influenced by the science-fantasy cosmos of H.P. Lovecraft’s Old Ones and the work of H.R. Giger.
