HPLHS Radio Show! At the Mountains of Madness

Monday, January 15th, 2007

HPLHS - At the Mountains of MadnessThe H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society does some quality work. Whether its Christmas CDs, posters, movies, or props, they really put some fine stuff together. I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve picked up from them and hope they continue putting together HPL media.

Well, it looks like my wait is over, because the HPLHS has put together what will probably be another fun work for the avid HPL collector! Available now, is the HPLHS audio adaptation of “At the Mountains of Madness”!

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre: At the Mountains of Madness brings Lovecraft’s tale to life as it might have been adapted for radio during his lifetime. In the style of The War of the Worlds and The Shadow, Dark Adventure Radio Theatre dramatizes HPL’s story with a cast of professional actors, exciting sound effects and original music by Troy Sterling Nies (composer for The Call of Cthulhu). Relive the excitement of 1930s radio with one of HP Lovecraft’s most exciting and fascinating stories: At the Mountains of Madness.

Go check it out at the HPLHS.

Radio Times and Doctor Who

Doctor Who - The Feast of the DrownedIts too bad that being here in “The States”, I can’t just step outside and pick up a copy of the Radio Times magazine. Especially since they’re giving away some Doctor Who audio books with the mags! Doctor Who is a great show, but David Tennant as Doctor Who Freakin’ Rox!

Radio Times will be giving away “The Feast of the Drowned” and “The Stone Rose”, both as two parters and read by David Tennant.

Check out more details, pics, and links, over at SFFAudio.com!

The Call of Cthulhu audio

Tales of Fear and the Unknown: The Call of CthulhuSFFAudio has some links up to some MP3’s of “The Call of Cthulhu”! The 2 MP3 set, 94 minutes in length (Unabridged, of course), was originally read by Garrick Hagon, and published in 1989 by Landfall Productions. Greylodge Podcasting Company is releasing the files for download and torrent!

Audio books can be a great way to get into stories, especially when stuck in situations where carrying of opening and holding books can be an issue, such as on crowded subway trains. They’re also good at blocking out the sanity stripping sound of kids who wont shut up, people talking loudly on cellphones, and the general populace that has no concept of people other than themselves. pant pant… /end_rant

Free H.P. Lovecraft Audiobook Downloads

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

SFFAudio.com has a sort of mini review/blurb about some HPL audiobooks available for free download over at Voices in the Dark.  Recordings include:

The Alchemist - 1908
The Beast in the Cave - 1905
Memory - 1919
The Music of Erich Zann
The Outsider - 1921 — first published April 1926 in Weird Tales
The Rats in the Walls
The Shadow Over Innsmouth - 1931 — published in 1936
The Street

And just in case you havn’t checked out Yog-Sothoth.com, they’ve got some audio recordings of “The Music of Erich Zann” and  “The Nameless City”.  I highly recommend listening to both, as they were done very well, and are excellent stories to boot.  Theres also a blooper recording of “The Music of Erich Zann”.  You can find them in the downloads section if you search for it, but its much easier to subscribe to the YogRadio Podcast, and download the recordings in your favorite application.
