USPS Certified Hat

Monday, June 30th, 2008

For some people, it is a means for delivering important documents to their clients, or to their lawyers. For others, it is a way to share family moments and class photos with the grandparents and other relatives. For some, it is a hat. The U.S. Postal Service document mailer makes a great head cover for those early morning naps in the Boston subway system. Get yours today at your local U.S. Post Office. Don’t be fooled by those plain manilla envelopes found elsewhere. Get an official, high-quality envelope from your nearest Postal Service representative.

Artists inspired by Lovecraft

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Enter the Octopus has posted up a mini review and some photos of a large and awesome looking collection of art entitled “A Lovecraft Retrospective: Artists Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft” from Centipede Press.  I especially love the artwork on the cover jacket, which coincidently is the same artwork on the editions of the HPL compilations I grew up with!  Included in the book are some previously unpublished works, several major essays, and an intro by Harlan Ellison.  Now if only I had the spare cash to add this to my growing collection of coffee table art books.

Connection: Torchwood - Call of Cthulhu

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

IantoWell I’ll be darned!  Its not an actual story connection, but I’d never have guessed that the actor who plays Torchwood’s Ianto Jones would be doing a book signing for an audio book version of “The Call of Cthulhu”.

If you happen to be near Birmingham, UK, maybe you should go see Gareth David-Lloyd at the Nostalgia And Comics at Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham, between 11am and 1pm, Saturday, June 28.  He’s also set to make appearances this year at Polaris 22, San Diego Comic Con, and Dragon*Con.

The Return!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I’m back! Yeay! :D

Time to do the loads of laundry, do the bills, balance the check book, and see about getting that MRI done on my shoulder. Little hint… If you’re going to get into a fight with the ground, the ground is going to win. Running speed crashes into the ground with 50 pounds of gear on just might cause a little damage.

Oh, and Lovecraft/pulp/fiction posts of course! Time for me to start scouring the web again! We’ll celebrate my return with an awesome video my brother John sent me.

DDay

Today is the anniversary of D-Day. Remember that war is not the romantic thing it is often made out to be. But also remember those who have fallen to make the world a better place. Read about the day at Wikipedia.
