The Limerence Project: Disc Three: Hurt

I’m willing to go on but not alone, not now
I’m so aware of everything.

A friend of mine once gave me a set of CDs with some notes, entitled “The Limerence Project”. Unfortunately, I have only just now started on the CD’s, and unfortunately, that friend has removed herself from my life. Still, the CDs remain, and they are a collection of emotions, hopes, and pain. To listen to the music selected and to read the highlighted lyrics is to travel through the seas of emotion, riding the crests of love, and dipping into the low points of sorrow. It is a journey to see one’s inner self.

Careful, be careful
This is where the world drops off.

All of the songs and highlighted text are excellent, covering groups like Nine Inch Nails, Sneaker Pimps, Madonna, T.a.T.u., Bif Naked, and many others. For me, the crowning glory of the set is Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt”. I don’t think there could have been made a song that I don’t connect with more than this one. So many of the songs I connect with; songs of love, songs of devotion, songs of pain and longing, but nothing speaks to me more than the words contained in “Hurt”.

What could I say to you, except, “I love you.”
And “I’d give my life for yours.”

Within the text, was highlighted an excerpt; “It is the story of willingness to take a risk for love.” This phrase sums up one of my truths of life. Love is the most important thing in life. True deep love sprouts like a spring flower, and requires nurturing and care. These are rare flowers, and should be treasured more than anything else. It is the love of family and friends. It is the love of dear ones, children, and soul mates. Without it, life is dull and empty. To have it and lose it makes life a living hell. To gain it again will put you on the highest wave you have ever ridden, but to lose it again, will see you in the blackest pits of despair. I guess I took a risk and lost.

It is the story of willingness to take a risk for love.

I wish my friend had remembered that she had highlighted those words. They held meaning for her once. They hold meaning for me now, but as Trent Reznor said:

Everyone I know goes away in the end.
