Dynamite’s Savage Tales #1 Sold Out

Savage Tales #1It looks like Dynamite’s “Savage Tales” #1, and “Raise the Dead” #1, were both fairly popular and both sold out!  I just picked up “Savage Tales” #1, but havn’t yet had a chance to check it out.  When I do, I’ll let you all know what I thought.

Did you all remember Free Comic Book Day last Saturday?  I forgot to post a reminder about it here, but I hope you’ll all forgive me… all 2 readers out there. :P

Check out more details about “Savage Tales” and “Raise the Dead” over at CBR.com.

I forgive you because I didn’t forget despite your forgetting to remind me. ;)

I got 4 free comics and my niece did too. :D

I picked up Savage Tales #1 the week before its alright. Not sure it’ll be a must purchase in perpetuity.

So I finally read Savage Tales #1. I have to say it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. The Red Sonja tale just didn’t intrigue me one bit.

The Atlantean tale seems like its trying to rush through a setup for some story that’ll probably be trying to tell too much in too short of a period.

The Hunter story seems a bit more interesting, and I’m actually intrigued to see how it turns out.

As for the main reason I picked it up (and no it wasn’t the cover :P ), The Elder Thing story stretches a bit beyond what I would normally want in a Lovecraftian story. Its somewhat interesting, and I’ll probably pick up the next 2 to see where it and the Hunter stories go, but I’m a bit worried about the divergence from Lovecraft’s Mythos history. That and I kept having flashbacks of the movie AI for some reason…

I think it’d be a little better if they could put a few more pages into the Savage Tales to let the stories be just a tad longer per issue, or maybe only have 3 stories per issue.

I’ll probably pick up the next two issues to see how the stories go, and also a few more copies of Raise the Dead and The Arm of Darkness versus Reanimator. Maybe I’ll write a bit about those two later.

    I feel the same way.

In other comics readings. I’ve been reading through the Dark Horse Conan tpbs of late and really appreciating the faithfulness found there.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about those. I was meaning on picking some up but it completely slipped my mind. I tend to have too much going on at once, most of the time.
